Are You Kidding Me???

I guess the gas stations out here have already found it fit to take advantage of Hurricane Katrina:

Holy shit! And that's not even the highest price....I had just passed another gas station but didn't have my cell phone out to take a picture....that station had regular unleaded priced at $3.10/gallon, and premium at $3.20/gallon! Nothing like butt f-ing us at the pumps already.

Sorry guys....but no Hottie update to report. That damn kid was still on our route yesterday, and I didn't see any UPS trucks on the way home last night. Damn.

Slight Change

Well, as you can see, I've done a slight change to the skin....I simply couldn't find a skin that satisfied me, or just made my jaw drop....so I decided to just change out the "Springtime" picture and replace it with one of my favorite Lep pics that I took at the Fresno show in June. I may start the "Wheel-O-Pics" back up, rotating pictures every few days with other pics that I took at the show.

Yay? Nay??? (Of course, since JTE is my favorite Lep, he will be the focus....hehehe).

My Achey Ass

Damn....I just know that I'm going to have arthritis in my tailbone. Thanks to all those falls I took when skating all those years ago. And having a sit-down job isn't helping it much....now whenever I get up to walk around, I can honestly say, "My achey ass."

And yes....Mr. Hottie and I passed each other again yesterday afternoon. We couldn't stop this time since he was turning onto a very busy street (Kathy...we were both at the stoplight at Chestnut/Bullard....me in the turn lane to turn onto Chestnut from Bullard, and he was waiting to turn onto Bullard from Chestnut). So we just waved, smiled and exchanged glances while waiting for our respective lights to turn green. I have to admit...this flirtation is quite fun!

Saw Mr. Hottie Again......

.....and this time, I turned around and talked to him! We passed by each other not far from my house, going in opposite directions as usual. We waved, but this time when I looked in my rear view mirror, he pulled over to the side of the road (Kathy...just past Sierra, going south on Chestnut...by the field across the street from our houses)! I saw him wait, so I said what the hell....I made a U-turn right in the middle of the street....safely, of course....and went back down the street. He pulled into the side street and parked his Big Brown Truck and waited.

We talked for a couple of minutes, and damn it was good to see him again! We parted ways after a couple of minutes, and he shocked the shit out of me when he reached into my car and hugged me (I stayed in my car while we talked)! He also said that he thinks this is his last week on our neighborhood route, and he'll be back to the work route next week....he thinks.

He has always resembled someone famous, but I just couldn't put my finger on it, then I realized who he bears some resemblence to.....former NFL quarterback Steve Beurlein:

So hopefully he'll be back to the work route soon!

I haven't gotten crap done this morning, because I came in to work to find that my Operating System was corrupt. So it took 2, count 'em 2 of our IT guys to come over to put in a new hard drive.....and now NONE of the programs on my profile are showing! Dumbasses.

Very Sad

The San Francisco 49ers played a preseason game Saturday night against the Denver Broncos. The 49ers lost the game, but more importantly, they lost one of the young guys fighting for a roster spot. The team was in the locker room after the game listening to Coach Mike Nolan give his post-game speech, when offensive lineman Thomas Herrion collapsed suddenly. CPR was performed, and he was rushed to a local Denver hospital where he later passed away. No cause of death has been determined yet.

Thoughts and prayers are with the family of Thomas Herrion....a life silenced way too soon.

Hmmmmmm

If someone is up front about what they do and DON'T seek in a partner, why is that so offensive to so many? Yes, I do have a personal ad online....and I state in clear, distinct words what I am, and AM NOT interested in...namely older men. It cracks me up how many responses I get from older men just how offended they are that, GASP...I'm not interested in an older man...HEAVEN FORBID!

One wrote and said that while he didn't want to offend, my words made me sound like I 'ruled the roost.' Because I know what I do and don't want??? Boy, talk about insecurity! These older men are more insecure than the younger guys! Some just write to tell me that because I know what I want, they aren't interested either. Well THANK GOD! One older doorknob went so far as to tell me that he owned houses in both Reno and Las Vegas, and I'm NOT invited. Oh, boo hoo...I'm crushed. *rolling eyes*

Yes, I know what I do, and don't want....and if that makes me a bitch...so be it. In the meantime, I'll just continue to gain amusement from the old farts out there trying to find their 'youth' again.

Who Was That??

I had just left work to head up to the north end of town to meet Kathy for lunch today at Port Of Subs, and I was trying to change into the lane to get onto the northbound onramp of the freeway, when I hear this car honking its horn. I looked behind me, as I'd just changed lanes, but I didn't cut anyone off so I didn't pay attention to the honking horn. It honked again, and it sounded like it was coming from the lane next to me. I looked to my left, and two lanes over there's this guy, just smiling and waving. I smiled and looked away (hellllooo..driving here), and I heard it again! I looked and he's still smiling and waving like he's trying to get my attention.

I thought, Damn...that looks like Mr. Hottie....I'm not sure, but it DEFinitely looked like him! He merged into the lane next to me, and acted like he was going to follow me, but I was at the onramp, so whether it was him or not....I dunno.

I asked the kid who has been on his route today to tell Brian I said hello. He said he THINKS that he comes back to our route next week....yeah, I've heard that one before....but let's hope that he does! Because this is just too strange to see this guy this much and never have a chance to talk again!

A Star In The Making?

Well this is cool news....one of the girls in our department working over at the hospital went up to San Francisco this week to audition for "American Idol". She called and told one of the other girls that she was chosen on her first round of auditions, and will be auditioning Friday in front of the Executive Producers! THEN, if she makes it past that round, she will go down to L.A. to audition for Randy, Paula and Simon! I'll have to start watching "Idol" if she makes it.

She sang a couple of songs for our department last week during a catered luncheon our boss gave us, and for such a tiny gal, she has a big voice! Pretty cool, huh?

So Sad

This happened here yesterday afternoon....this is just so sad....no word on the condition of the children this morning. Parents out there....PLEASE lock your unoccupied cars so another tragedy like this doesn't happen in hot temperatures. Also....DO NOT leave pets in your cars for even 5 minutes.... I get so angry when I see a dog unattended in a hot car.

Broiling auto a prison for children
Boy and girl hospitalized after frantic relatives find them unconscious in a car.

By Diana Marcum / The Fresno Bee
(Updated Thursday, August 18, 2005, 6:52 AM)

Two small children found unconscious in the broiling back seat of a car Wednesday afternoon remained in critical condition at Children's Hospital Central California late Wednesday night.
Fresno police said that according to their interviews, a 4-year-old boy and his 2-year-old sister were in the care of their father in southeast Fresno when they somehow got out of the house and into his unlocked Toyota.

When the father realized the children — identified by a relative as Joseph Munguia and Brianne Munguia — were gone, he and their grandfather frantically searched for them.
The grandfather found the children in the car, pulled them out and called 911 about 2:45 p.m.
Firefighters and ambulances were the first on the scene, said police Lt. Mike Guthrie. Medical personnel tried to bring the children's body temperatures down by spraying them with a garden hose. They were able to get a pulse for Joseph — but not for Brianne — before putting them in the ambulance.

By the time police arrived, the children were at University Medical Center where doctors worked to stabilize them before they were transported to Children's Hospital.
Police cordoned off the car, the house and the yard filled with the children's toys near Nevada and Maple avenues and began a crime scene investigation.
"Until you know exactly what happened, you always err on the side of caution," said Sgt. Mike Palomino.

Donna Munguia watched the investigation from her house across the street. She's married to the brother of the children's grandfather and said she baby-sat them when they were babies.
"They do everything together. They're always outside playing with their toys," she said. "They love being outside. They're country kids."

She said the two children moved from Caruthers to Fresno about a year ago.
A study released last month by the Stanford School of Medicine reported that a car's interior could heat up by an average of 40 degrees Fahrenheit within an hour, no matter what the ambient temperature.

It was 99 degrees in Fresno on Wednesday.

Guthrie said there was an important message in the potential tragedy.
"Everyone needs to keep their cars locked so kids can't get into them in this heat," he said. "Parents of small children need to take extraordinary cautions."

Blah

That's all I have to say about life in general right now.

But, we are looking forward to receiving a new Union contract at work starting in October, which means annual increases; and we are eventually going to be equal with the wages in the San Francisco Bay area FINALLY. When I started working at this job almost 18 years ago, our area was the lowest paid of the three service areas comprising the Bay Area, Sacramento, and Fresno. A few years ago however, the Union did away with the third tier, which was Fresno and brought us equal to Sacramento. NOW, the union is striving to bring ALL of California equal, including Southern California, to the Bay Area.

This is great news... by the end of this upcoming contract in 2008....all of our Union employees in California will be compensated equally. It's about damn time.

Lack Of Motivation

Why is it that I start something mundane....like trying to clean old papers and crap out of my desk....only to stop right after I start? I just can't seem to find motivation. Maybe because "Aunt Flo" stopped by yesterday, and I'm tired....physically and emotionally.

Thankfully the weather has cooled off a tad this weekend. Yesterday was the first day in 20-something days that we didn't break the century mark. I have the window open for some fresh air (if you can call our air here 'fresh'), but I'm probably going to close it pretty quick. The next door neighbor (the BBQ 'master') has someone doing something...painting or something inside... and they are blaring Mexican Hat Dance type music from their piddly little car radio. Just freakin' jolly.

I really should go to Victoria's Secret to spend the $50.00 gift card our office got for meeting incentives for the week, but I'm just too pooped to spend today.

That WAS Mr. Hottie!

Remember about 3 weeks ago I said I thought I saw Mr. Hottie coming off a street in our neighborhood in his UPS truck? I thought it was him, but I wasn't sure? Well, it WAS him, and I saw him again today on the way home!

I turned onto left onto the street I needed to be on to get home, and there's a UPS truck at the corner, waiting to turn right onto the street I'd just come from. I looked as I turned the corner, and I saw a big smile, and I heard him honk his horn (amazing I even heard it, considering the volume at which my "Rock Of Ages" CD was playing at...LOL), and he waved! I look surprised, and waved back.

No, he's not back delivering to work, damn it. But hey, at least we did see each other in passing!

Fresno Heat

One of my co-workers sent this to me....you have NO IDEA how true this is unless you've lived here, or spent a week here in the summer....LOL And before anyone freaks out while reading, there were NO CATS THAT WERE BAKED in real life..remember, this is a joke/jab at my lovely city...but it's SOOOOOO true!

******************

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA DIARY:
May 30th: Just moved to Fresno. Now this is a city that knows how to live!!Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. What a place! It isbeautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here.

June 14th:
Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an
air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshiper.

June 30th: Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th: The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least it's kind of windy though. But getting used to the heat is taking longer than I expected.

July 15th: Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body).Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 20th:
I missed Lomita (my cat) sneaking into the car when I left this
morning. By the time I got to the hot car at noon, Lomita had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stank up the upholstery. The car now smells like Kibbles and shits. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat.

July 25th:
The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the A/C repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

July 30th: Been sleeping outside on the patio for 3 nights now. $225,000 house (edited...try more like $350,000!) and I can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here?

Aug. 4th:
It's 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 85. I hate this stupid city.

Aug. 8th: If another wise ass cracks, 'Hot enough for you today?' I'm going to strangle him. Damn heat. By the time I get to work, the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

Aug. 9th:
Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and when I sat on
the seats in the car, I thought my ass was on fire. I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and ass. Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat.

Aug 10th:
The weather report might as well be a damn recording. Hot and sunny.
Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do shit for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week.Doesn't it ever rain in this damn desert? Water rationing will be next,so my $1700 worth of cactus will just dry up! and blow over. Even the cactus can't live in this damn heat.

Aug. 14th:Welcome to HELL! Temperature got to 115 today. Forgot to crack the window and blew the damn windshield of the car. The installer came to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My sister had to spend $1500 to bail me out of jail. Freaking Fresno! What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here?? Will write later to let you know how the trial goes.

Took That One Back

This weekend has been the weekend from HELL, both domestically and internet/computer related. I ended up taking the new computer back today, because it crashed twice on me already since Friday. And my brother was over this morning, and told me that the Celeron processor would not keep up with my graphics and whatnot eventually. So, I took that one back, and got the computer I really wanted in the first place, but was too cheap at the time to buy it: HP Pavilion a1140n

I still won't know just how fast this one is until my DSL service becomes active on Tuesday. Have I mentioned that DIAL-UP SUCKS???? So bear with me until Wednesday....if I don't hit your blogs, that's why....because it takes FOREVER for pages to load on dial-up!

And we're still in a blasted inferno here....promises of upper 90's haven't materialized yet. We had a couple of tolerable days at 101 or 102....but today it was 106. I'm so sick of this damned heat!

And a BIG CONGRATS to my favorite quarterback, Steve Young on his induction into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame today! WOOHOO!!!

Hope everyone has a good week!

Back In Business

I picked up the new computer yesterday....now I'm just waiting for my new DSL modem to arrive. AOL dropped their DSL package, and migrated their DSL customers over to SBC DSL service, while still keeping AOL service. I've been with AOL since 1997, and while I have cursed AOL at times, I'm used to it (and as a Cancerian, I rebel against change), so rather than start over with a new ISP, I'm sticking with AOL, but SBC will be the DSL provider.

So once I get my modem, and get it hooked up to the new computer, I should be fully back in business. DIAL-UP SUCKS!

So now I have to learn how to use the DVD burner on this new computer....plus it has the ability to laser-etch labels onto CD's and DVD's...cool!
And L/S - I haven't forgotten about the questions....I'll get them to you sometime this weekend!
Have a good weekend, everyone!

I Have GOT To Get A New Computer

I've had it.....I need to get a new home PC before I break a window throwing my old POS out of it! The PC my brother built decided to freeze up last week, so I plugged my previous PC up to use again. Monday night, the internet connection decided to poop out on that one....I had connected JUST FINE Monday morning. So last night I dug my OLD HP PC out of the closet, and this morning I just about threw it out the window....good Lord, a snail moves faster than that thing!

So, I'm seriously thinking about getting a new PC this weekend....probably another HP, with a LightScribe DVD-RW drive. I know people cuss HP, but I honestly haven't had but a couple of problems with each of my other HP's....on the snail, it was a faulty power supply.....on my current HP, I can't say that I've had any problems, except for the CD burner not keeping up to speed. The HP I'm looking at has a Celeron D processor, and a bigger hard drive than mine. I've had that HP for three years, and it's still functional, but slow. And the modem doesn't want to work, apparently.

But I have to do SOMETHING before I break all the windows in the house! I'm having to check my email at work this week, so if I'm not responding in a timely manner, or blog-hopping as much, that's why.

GET OFF THE PHONE!

Stupidity reigned yesterday on the way home from work.....I guess the heat fried this chick's brain. I had just left work, and was waiting to turn right, onto the street to head home. (Kathy, I was northbound on Blackstone, waiting to turn right onto Barstow at the light). The light turned green for us, but the car ahead of me stopped suddenly. Some ditz in a big-ass truck decided to run a red light, and turn onto the street I needed to turn onto. I finally turned, and got behind this dumb shit. I moved over to the outside lane to go by her, and the dumb bitch tried to merge over into my lane....while talking on her damned cell phone! I laid on my horn, and she kept coming over for a second. Her brain must have clicked on at that point, because she put on her brakes, and finished merging into my lane. I got back over into the lane she came from, passed by her and the stupid ass is STILL talking on the phone!

DUMB ASS!!!

And my internet decided to not function last night....I couldn't connect for the life of me. I still have to figure out what's going on there. GRRRRRR
